Naturally Charlie SL Scott 9781612131313 Books Reviews
This is a friends to lovers story and it is sweet and romantic; it is very well written too! It reads almost like a modern classic love story.
Charlotte, (Charlie) encounters a good looking guy Charles (Charlie) one day on her way home in the subway. They have a "moment" but nothing comes out of it until they meet again by accident in a club. The chemistry between the two characters is strong, however instead of getting involved they become friends over time.
Charlie (Charles) knows that Charlie (Charlotte) is the one for him; however, he knows that she isn't ready for a romantic relationship. Charlotte on the other hand, though attracted to Charlie, doesn't want to get romantically involved as she isn't emotionally ready (her previous rich boyfriend did a number on her and she has trust issues).
What I loved about this book was that the characters fell in love gradually (maybe too gradually) over time; nothing was rushed and the friendship was just so beautifully written. When they did fall in love it was totally all natural or so it seemed. Charlie (male lead) by the way is totally awesome, hot and sensitive to boot!! LOVED HIM
The book is an enjoyable read and the characters are very likeable. Great Read!
So I'm late to this party, having had this book on my TBR list since it first came out, and all I can say now is what the heck was I waiting for?
I won't go and summarize the plot of this book. Many readers/reviewers more adept than me have already done that. I won't go into how well the book was written (which it was) or how sweet it is (which it is).
What I will share though is what I think this book is about. This book is not only about two people from disparate backgrounds finding themselves, but it is a book of hope - the kind of hope that each and everyone of us who has gone through bad relationships and break-ups hope to find. Hope for each and everyone of us who may have chosen relationships due to sheer ignorance or false promises. Hope for each of us who has not come to terms that the death of our relationships may not be solely ours, but ours together.
It is a hope that one day, one fine day, we will find that someone who is ours, who fully and truly understands us warts and all. The ONE, who has the charm to captivate us, the wit to ensnare us, and the patience to let us travel the path we need to take to make ourselves whole again.
Naturally, Charlie does not boast of any dramatic ups or downs. It doesn't have those evil stepsisters (or lovers) who would throw a wrench into a fledging relationship, no kidnap scenes, no comas, no wars, no armed battles. What Naturally, Charlie does have is the sneak-up-on-you type of relationship, One that is mired in everyday life, one that develops over Saturday afternoon rituals of marathon movie watching, naps and dinner. One that grows on you as each coffee is made, dinner is prepared, meandering walks completed and funerals attended.
Naturally, Charlie is a book that, when you reach the last page, you close the book with a contended sigh and want more. But if more doesn't come, it will be okay, because you know that as the last chapter is done and the last word is read, the people who have gotten close to and identified with --Charlie and Charlie -- will be ok. And that their love will continue on, for their love is based not on need, but on knowing each other so fully, so completely, so intimately, that their being together is not fate, but is destined.
This is a sweet yet melancholy at times simple refreshing love story. Two strangers meet one day on the subway and they both feel a connection but the moment slips by without either asking each others name. Charlie Adams does nothing but think about this girl he met on the subway. They meet again at a bar but Charlotte’s best friend calls dibs on him, so she ends the night early giving Charlie the impression she has no feelings for him. “Charlie” and Charlie become friends and so much more, but things that happen in her past is holding her back. They both have past that they are trying to forget and learn to trust their feelings. Come and take this journey and find out if they can burry the past and create their own destiny together. Their chemistry together is funny and relaxed except when Charlotte over thinks things. I think you will fall in love with Naturally Charlie, as much as I did and you will root for these characters to find their way. Thank you S. L. Scott Well Done
